New York Day 2!

Ok so day two was a Friday and it was absolutely freezing!! We went to this AMAZING diner for our breakfast, which was on 9th Avenue somewhere between 40th and 44th Street! Unsure what it was called, but it did the most yummiest pancakes ever! It was just what we were looking for!

We then went and got the New York Water Taxi down to the bottom of Manhattan, while we were waiting we saw the huge Intrepid ship and also Concorde! This made Robert very happy as he loves transporty things! This was a great tour and we got some really good photos! Now this was when we went to Ground Zero. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was very eerie and silent. You could feel that there had been a tragedy of epic proportions here. Even though I knew what huge buildings once stood where I was, I still couldn't imagine the scale of them in this new setting. We paid our respects and marvelled at the new World Trade Centre being built and went off to Starbucks for a hot chocolate to warm us up!

We then visited the famous Wall Street and I did try to find the bull, but I couldn't find him anywhere!! I was quite upset! Hehe, so if anyone knows where the big bull statue is then please leave me a comment! We wandered down to Pier 17 and got some great pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge. Also visited some shops, but more on what I bought in a later post! We then took a stroll over the Brooklyn Bridge, as you do!

We then ended up taking our fist New York Subway ride up to Grand Central Station, because you just have to go and visit it! For dinner we went to our favourite TGI Friday's! We love it and always go when we are at home as well. The portion sizes were HUGE!! We didn't eat it all, so Robert was dead chuffed when we got a doggy bag and some of their special Jack Daniels sauce away with us! We then visited all the amazing shops in Time Square and bought some goodies! So that was pretty much Day two, I was exhausted by the end of it with all the walking around!! Some photo's below!

Lots of photos (again no make up boohoo)! We sadly didn't go onto Liberty Island and go up the statue, because it was closed and as you can see from one of the photos there was cranes fixing the statue! In these photos I am wearing quite a few things that were in my first New York post, but differences are:

  • Cream Cat Jumper - New Look
  • Scarf - Accessorize
  • Hat - River Island (from a couple of years ago!)
  • Jeans - Hollister

New York, New York!! Day 1

So here goes the first leg of the trip! New York has got to be the most famous city in the world! We were expecting big things and obviously it didn't disappoint! I have only been to the USA once before and that was when I was 7 and my parents and I went to Florida, to go to all the theme parks. It was honestly the best holiday ever and I plan on making that our next holiday and do all the parks again!! Hehe! My boyfriend has never been to America before, so the both of us were very excited! I think I'm going to split New York into the 3 days I was there as we did so much and I'm not sure about how long a post can be etc!

Can I also just point out and this was probably one of the best things of the journey was the tv on the back of every seat on the plane over to New York, which was touchscreen and you could watch a huge number of movies at any point during the flight!! I was like a kid in a sweetie shop, honestly!!! It's such a good idea, so well done United Airlines, for keeping me so entertained!

We arrived in a very cold New York at 11am, so we had the whole day to wander around. As we arrived in Newark airport (which technically is in New Jersey a whole different state!) we got the train right into the city of New York, which was really easy! The first thing we saw when we got out the train station was this::

Ahhh!! Sounds silly, but we were so shocked just to see the Empire State Building stood there, we were both very impressed! My boyfriend and I are quite into buildings and architecture I guess, so these things are really impressive!! After dropping our suitcases off at our very swanky hotel (who’s bell boy very randomly had a Manchester City scarf round his neck!!), hehe, we headed straight away to Times Square, as this was just round the corner from our hotel. Also we had to pick up our New York Passes, which is such an amazing deal to get as this lets you into all the big attractions and we saved so much money doing this. We booked them on the internet before we went and we got a 3 day pass; I would highly recommend you do this if you visiting New York, especially if you want to visit the big sites! The website we got ours from was this www.newyorkpass.com. Being there was so surreal, as everyone has seen Times Square in so many movies and television programmes. We then just had to go up the Empire State Building, which was a complete dream for Robert and I and there was also no queues whatsoever, which was great!

When we left there we went and got tickets to go to an ice hockey match in Madison Square Gardens! It was the New York Rangers vs the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now it’s so funny that these two teams were playing each other, because Robert is a huge supporter of the Glasgow Rangers Football Club, and also because Robert and I have this funny joke thing between us about penguins! It’s a long story!! Anyway, so the ice hockey match was very interesting, but I don’t understand how Americans can put up with all the breaks!! It was mad, every 5 minutes the game was stopped and random things were happening on the ice, such as adverts, cleaning the ice, the big ice cleaning machines with wee boys on the backs of them (which was pretty funny, with their huge smiley faces!), cars coming on the ice and so on, so on. So for three 20 minutes thirds, it took around two and a half hours for the game to actually finish! It was good fun and we were glad we went, one so we could say we had been to an ice hockey match and two that we had been to Madison Square Gardens!

So here's some photo's of the day!

So most of them were from up the top of the Empire State! Oh and by the way, due to my crappy skin, I have no make up on in these pics! From the first photo I will tell you where I got my clothes from, unsure whether I should do this, but here goes any ways!

  • Faux Fur Coat - Asos (it has ears!!!!)
  • Gloves - River Island (from about two years ago)
  • Bag - Fossil
  • Tan Jeans - River Island
  • Boots - Rogersons Footwear (old lady shop I know, but these boots are actually really nice and very comfy!!)

I'm sure Robert's jacket is from Debenhams and his hat is from Next!

January 2012

So as I said before, I am going to start my blog from the beginning of 2012, because I have had a bit of a mad year and have done soo much! January was a time of complete excitement for my boyfriend and I, because we had booked a holiday wayyyy back in June 2011 and the time had finally come to get packing! We booked a two week holiday to 3 different parts of the great USA! Firstly, we would be going to New York for 3 nights, then travelling all the way to Oahu in Hawaii for 7 nights and then visiting Las Vegas for 3 nights. So this was like a holiday of a life time for us and we were uber excited all Christmas time waiting for January the 19th to come!

Now for me the dilemma was what on earth to pack?! In January, New York is absolutely freezing, Hawaii is boiling warm (well for me anyways!) and Las Vegas is also relatively cold, but nothing compared to New York. So my suitcase was rather mixed with big jumpers, hats, gloves and boots and then shorts, vests and sandals! It was a very random suitcase to pack if I'm honest!!

So as you can see from my homemade map (!), this was our route and where we stopped. We did actually go on 6 flights, which totalled to around 34 hours spent on planes during our trip!!

  1. Glasgow to New York
  2. New York to Honolulu
  3. Honolulu to San Francisco (only a change over stop I might add!)
  4. San Francisco to Las Vegas
  5. Las Vegas to New York
  6. New York to Glasgow
A bit mad you may say, but it was totally worth it and it turned out to be an awesome holiday!! We are huge fans of America and I actually want to visit all 50 states before I'm old and grey, so three in one go was a  good start!! Throughout the trip I was very "Snap Happy", if you get me and took around 1600 photographs!! So lots of pictures to show you what we got up to on our amzing trip!

New York post coming up! Watch this space!!

My First Post!

Ok, so I have created this blog for myself, as a place to compile my life and thoughts! I have to say I hope the title of my blog "Its a Blondes Life" doesn't put anybody off. This is not only for people with blonde hair and I do not mean to discriminate in any way, shape or form! It is not meant as a "blonde is better" type thing in anyway, just as how I see my life, as I am a blonde headed girl (in both ways I might add!)! Right got that bit out of the way! Phew....

So onto my actual blog. So 2012 has been a bit of a mad year form me already and its only April!! So with my blog I'm going to actually start at the beginning of 2012 if you don't mind! Also, the reason I'm starting a blog is because I have been reading quite a lot of them recently and I think they are great! I do have some favourites and I regularly keep up to date with them and I'm also excited about finding some new  blogs to read!!

I wouldn't say this is going to be a beauty blog as such, but more about life in general with different lots of bits and bobs mixed altogether in one place! It's definitely a place for girls might I add!

Ok so now for a little bit about me, now I don't want to double with what I am saying in my profile, so this will just be a quick intro into Jen! I'm a 22 year old blonde with a love of all things pink and probably too much to say! I love all things beauty and fashion and also I have a huge love for all animals, like a major passion!  I have the most amazing boyfriend, two wee cheeky cats and also eczema (sad face) and this is the absolute nightmare of my life! I currently work 7, yes seven, days a week in two jobs! Meaning no time for myself, but supposedly money, which I don't know where it goes!! During the week I am in an office, working with a small construction company as the office manager. At the weekends and sometimes at nights during the week, I work in a very well known high end clothing and accessory shop, but I'm not telling any names!! Hehe.... So I live a busy wee life at the moment, but I am determined to make some time to do this!

So we shall see how this blog goes! I hope you all will like!

Love, Jen x
